Dentist Credentials Explained!
All practicing dentists are awarded either a D.D.S. (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or D.M.D. (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry) degree after completing a post graduate dental program through an accredited school. Dentists who have a D.D.S. or D.M.D. have the same education.
The American Academy of General Dentists (AGD) is the professional organization for dentists that promotes life-long learning and advancement to ensure dentist are providing cutting edge and quality care to their patients. Members of this organization are able to receive one of the few distinguished awards offered to dentists, Fellow of the American Academy of General Dentistry(F.A.G.D.). F.A.G.D. recipients have completed 500 or more hours in continuing education credits and have passed a rigorous 8-hour exam. The state of Arizona only requires 24 hours of CE credit per year, which at that rate it would take a dentist over 20 years to receive the hours necessary to earn Fellowship status! Dr. Heaton takes pride in being up to date on current trends in dentistry, offering cutting edge technology in his offer and advanced treatment options to his patients. Only 7% of practicing dentists are F.A.G.D. recipients. For more information, visit www.AGD.org.
